This is how you clean your camera sensor properly

Sensor Reinigung Anleitung (2).jpg

1. Blow away dust

First remove the loose dust and coarse particles from the sensor with a bellows. This first step ensures that no small particles of dirt cause scratches during wet cleaning. This way you can optimally prepare the sensor for subsequent, gentle cleaning.

2. Moisten Sensor Swab

Moisten the cleaning head of the Sensor Swab with one or two drops of the special cleaning fluid. The swab should only become slightly moist to avoid excessive amounts of liquid. This controlled humidification ensures effective dirt removal without leaving any residue.

3. Swipe across the sensor

Move the wet swab over the sensor in a consistent motion - once from left to right and then in the opposite direction. Due to the exact width of the swab, the entire sensor is covered in just one swipe. Our free e-book contains detailed instructions.

questions and answers

Is sensor cleaning really safe?

Yes, with the right accessories, sensor cleaning can be carried out safely. It is important to work cleanly and use the swabs correctly. Our sensor swabs are specially developed for sensitive camera sensors and enable gentle cleaning.

Can I really clean my camera sensor myself?

Yes, many photographers clean their sensors themselves. First, use a blower to remove any coarse dust. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly moistened swab. If you are unsure, you can approach it slowly or seek professional cleaning.

How often should I clean my sensor?

This depends on how often you change lenses and the environment in which you photograph. If the lens is changed frequently or the environment is dusty, regular cleaning may make sense. In many cases it is sufficient to only clean the sensor if there are visible stains.

Which is better – bellows or sensor swabs?

Both complement each other perfectly:
The bellows removes loose dust particles without contact.
The Sensor Swabs are used for wet cleaning to remove oil, streaks and stubborn dirt.

Are the swabs reusable?

No, we recommend using each swab only once. This way you avoid dirt that has already been picked up from getting onto the sensor again.

Can I damage my sensor in the process?

There is always a risk if used improperly. However, if you work carefully, apply only light pressure and use the swabs correctly, cleaning can be carried out safely.

Can I perform sensor cleaning without liquid?

The bellows is often sufficient for light dirt. However, for oil residues or streaks, wet cleaning with cleaning fluid is necessary to achieve a streak-free result.
